How to get help when you find yourself looking after someone with cancer

Friday 22 April 2022

We know that sometimes caring for someone with cancer can creep up on you. Your relationship can change so slowly that you might not realise how much caring for that person has taken over your life.

If you think you’re experiencing this there are some important people that you should let know so that you can get the support you need.

  1. Your GP – they will want to know to ensure your health and the health of the person you’re caring for. It will go on your medical record and you will be called first for vaccines etc
  2. Employer – looking after someone with cancer is stressful, if your employer knows your situation they will understand possible changes in your work or temperament, if you’re stressed you will be allowed time off
  3. Local Authority – under the Carers Act your Local Authority is obliged by law to give you a carers assessment. This will help you access the support you need from benefits, home help, medical support etc
  4. Family and friends – they will want to know and want to help
  5. ²Ñ²¹²µ²µ¾±±ð’s – our professional support is free. We can help with everything from managing emotions to money worries.

If you care about them, we care about you
